Public Computers and Wi-Fi Access

Both public access computers and WiFi are available at the Wallkill Public Library.

Rules Governing In-House Use

- All Internet users need a valid library card to sign on to the computer each time. Users with fines of more than $10 will be blocked.

-Guest passes will be made available at the library manager’s discretion to enable non-patrons to use the computer. Guest pass privileges will be revoked in the event that the user is not adhering to the Internet policy or other library policies.

- Computers on the main floor of the library are for ages 13 and up only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. After school, from 3-6 p.m., please be aware that children under 13 may use these computers.

- The public library, unlike schools, does not serve in loco parentis (in place of a parent). Librarians cannot act in the place of parents in providing constant care and supervision of children as they explore the Internet. Library staff will not require that children utilize filtered search engines for their research. As with private usage of all other library materials, monitoring a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
-Children under the age of seven are not allowed to use the computer without the supervision of an adult (17 years of age or older) who is validated to use the library computer.

- Usage of the public access computers will be timed and tracked by Envisionware, a software designed for this purpose. Patrons will be permitted a maximum of two hours of usage each day – divided into one-hour increments depending on whether or not there is a queue of people waiting to use the computers.

- Users may not attempt to reconfigure systems or software, or in any way interfere with or disrupt the current system or network setup and services.

- Users may not unplug, remove, or otherwise modify library equipment.

- Users may not invade the privacy of others. Each user has a right to a quiet work space. No more than two people may use a work station at the same time.

- It is strictly prohibited to use the library Internet for illegal or criminal purposes. Users agree to comply with federal, state, and local laws, including those related to obscenity, pornography, or delivery to minors material deemed harmful to them. Violators of the policy may be removed from the library building and may have their library privileges revoked.
