Summer kickoff best yet

This year's June 29 summer reading program kickoff drew 400 people! What a difference three years makes - during that season's kickoff, about 50 people showed up.

But the program has evolved, and with it, the shows. Dave Smith, nationally known as the "One Man Sideshow," was the featured performer for the kickoff event. The "America's Got Talent" semifinalist  wowed the crowd with his juggling, comedy, and other vaudevillian acts.

And there are a lot more talented performers to come during this year's summer program, including anime artist Josh Elder, the internationally renowned Storycrafters, and, for the August 6 finale, Jester Jim.

More than 200 children are already registered for this year's summer reading program, but more are welcome! Come in and find out what's available.

This year, the reading program isn't just for kids, either. Adults can come in and register for their own program! Read a book, watch a DVD, write a brief review, and you're eligible for a prize. If you're reading and watching movies anyway, why not earn a prize while you're at it?

Whether you feel like writing a review or not, be sure to come in and check out the free adult programming the library's offering this summer, as well. Learn about fun crafts and pastimes such as scrapbooking and knitting, or sit in on the monthly fiction book club!

Be sure to check out the library Web site's calendar for updates on which programs are coming up (www.wallkillpubliclibrary.org).

And, no matter how old you are, don't forget the scavenger hunt - a downtown-wide opportunity to not only support your local businesses, but win cool prizes! Come into the library to pick up the clues that will lead you to the 12 different masterpieces hanging around the hamlet. You have the whole month of July to find them and turn them in for prizes!
